Elaine M. Prosen, 80, of 423 Blemhuber Avenue, Marquette, entered eternal life Saturday afternoon, April 23, 2005, at the Norlite Nursing Center, where she had resided since Thursday.
Born November 7, 1924 in Gwinn, a daughter of Henry and Sima (Korpi) Niemi, Elaine was raised in Gwinn and was a 1942 graduate of the Forsyth Township High School in Gwinn. She then enrolled in St. Luke’s School of Nursing, graduating in 1946 with a diploma as a registered nurse. On June 29, 1946 Elaine married Rudolph L. Prosen and the couple set about establishing their home and raising a family, which would eventually include seven girls. Elaine was employed for many years at the former St. Mary’s Hospital, primarily on the urology floor, and then with Marquette General Hospital, when the former St. Mary’s and St. Luke’s Hospitals merged. She retired shortly after the merger in 1981. Elaine loved her role as homemaker and, with little time for hobbies, she treasured the time spent with her children and grandchildren.
Elaine is survived by six daughters, Sandy Morris of Deltona, FL, Judie (Fran) Roberts of Rapid River, Debbie Prosen and Kathy Miller of Marquette, Theresa Prosen of Gladstone, and Laura (Dan) Gannon of Marquette; her grandchildren, Ray (Linda) Roberts, Carrie Roberts, April Morris, Travis Bradbury, Ashley Bradbury, Allison Miller (Fiancee, Justin Wallin), Amanda Miller, Adam Gannon and Noah Gannon; great-grandchildren, Nick, Cassie, and Kaden Roberts; and a brother, Leo (Donna) Niemi of Sault Ste Marie, Ontario, Canada. In addition to her parents, Elaine was preceded in death by her husband, Rudolph Prosen in 1990; and a daughter, Mary Jo Prosen in 1999.
Friends may call at the Fassbender Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 26, beginning at 4:00 pm. Funeral services will follow at 7:00 pm Tuesday evening in the funeral home with family friend, Deacon Bill Karstenson officiating. Burial will be made in the Holy Cross Cemetery.
