I remember the years Ron and I played football together and ran track meets -- and we "bummed around" together all through high school. I last saw him at the 2003 Houghton class reunion. He was an exceptional athlete and close friend. I was touched when he contacted me after my wife's passing in January 2004. He told me his remembrances of Char and I and said he knew we had been a true love story. He even thanked me for contributing to his success in earlier years! It was very meaningful for me and I hope he knew how much I appreciated that letter. I will miss him. My sympathy to his entire family. GOD BLESS YOU all.

We enjoyed very much knowing your dad. We knew from Tom that he was quite the man but realy didn't know just how athletic he was until we read his obituary. You all must be very proud to know all the records he held. I know he truly loved all his grandchildren. Nicole and Brady were always excited when Grandpa Ron was there. We send our our sympathy and love,

I was an accounting client of Ron's and came to know him as a friend. He loved his family and talked of them often. My sincere condolences.

It is always a shock to learn about old friends passing. My sincere condolences to all of the extended Nettell family. I had not seen Ron in many, many years, therefore I still remember him as he was, young, strong, carefree and certainly athletic. We played a lot of sports together and he was a leader. During the war years, six of us were paid sweepers at the Dee Stadium. (One dollar per week) You had to be there for all skating sessions and hockey games. We would get the money and go to the Horseshoe Lunch in Houghton and have a hamburger and coffee. Big treat and it only cost 25 cents. I remember going to the first Tech football game that Wimp was going to play in as a freshman in 1948. Several of us were talking to him as he stood in the end zone waiting for the kickoff. He took it and went the length of the field for a touchdown the first time he handled the football in a college game. He had tremendous coordination and was very nimble in football and in hockey. I remember that after he was married and came back to Tech, I had a summer job delivering milk and ice cream for Bridgeman Russell in Hancock. I had to leave and Wimp took over the job driving a very old truck on a route that covered the logging camps and went to Mass City. The pay was not so good, but the food in the many camp kitchens was great. I am doing some rambling since I do not know most of you..but Wimp was a friend and team mate for most of my younger life. Looking back on our time together, we went through a lot of hard times, but really didn't know it because we had a lot of fun together. I liked the picture of Ron in the Obit 'cause it is the guy that I remember. He was a great friend and I know that you will miss him, as will we all.

Cherish the great memories that you have of "Wimp". It was always a sure bet that their was a good laugh shared between him and my father as they reminisced about their high school days.
