Joyce S. Peterson, 83, of 222 South Fifth Street, Marquette, entered eternal life Saturday, March 5, 2005, at her home.
Born July 18, 1921 in Marquette, a daughter of James Patrick and Jenny (Fritz) McMahon, Joyce was a 1939 graduate of the Graveraet High School and a lifelong Marquette resident. For over 32 years she was employed as a salesclerk with the former Virg’s Bootery on Washington Street, prior to retirement.
Joyce was a member of St. Christopher Catholic Church and the Richard Jopling Post #44 American Legion Auxiliary. In her leisure she enjoyed knitting and going to the casino.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 39 years, Gilbert E. “Gib” Peterson in 1997; two sisters, Viola Valimaa and Marion Beaudin; and a brother, Walter McMahon.
Survivors include her sister, Elsie Nowak of Marquette; and several nephews and nieces, William (Yvonne) Zintman, Daniel (Kathy), Patrick (Sandy), and Michael (Joanne) McMahon, Mary Kay (David) Glass, Juliet (James) Elder, Kathleen Lindberg, and Patricia Beaudin.
A graveside inurnment service will be held at the Holy Cross Cemetery in the spring. The Fassbender Funeral Home is serving the family.
