Mary Louise Peterson

Mary Louise “Mary Lou” Peterson, 75, of 1095 Ontario Avenue, Marquette, entered eternal life Saturday evening, January 15, 2005, at home, in the comforting care of her family and the caregivers of UP Home Health and Hospice.

Mary Lou was born April 2, 1929 in Marquette, a daughter of Clarence and Lillian (Dupras) Richer, and was a lifelong Marquette resident.  She was a 1947 graduate of the Bishop Baraga High School.  On September 2, 1950 she married Harold Lee Peterson and the couple set about establishing their home and raising a family.  A homemaker, Mary Lou especially enjoyed the time spent with her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  In her leisure she enjoyed knitting, crocheting, flower gardening, walking her dog, and picking berries.  She was a 4-H leader for many years, teaching children to knit.  Mary Lou and Harold were members of the WELLS Vagabond Camping Club and the Michigan Uppers.  Mary Lou also performed volunteer work in the public schools.

A loving and devoted wife, mother, proud grandparent, great-grandparent, and sister, she is survived by her husband of 54 years, Harold Lee Peterson; three daughters, Linda (David) Winslow and Sharon (Michael) Fries both of Marquette, and Jan (Joe) Wilke of Marinette, WI; two sons, Steven (Julie) Peterson and Gary (Tina) Peterson both of Marquette; her grandchildren, Amy Winslow, Natalie (Jason) Campbell, Shawn (Bonnie) Greenleaf, Aaron Winslow, Andrew Winslow, Jessica Wilke, Adam Winslow, Cassie Fries, Jared Wilke, Jenna Wilke, Cory Fries, Ashley Peterson, and Calvin Fries; great-grandchildren, Freya and Cooper Holferty; three sisters, Joan (George) Huff of Phoenix, AZ, Donna (John) Bianchetti of Munising, and Bonnie (Charles) Fassbender of Poway, CA; a brother, Donald (Margaret) Richer of Mesa, AZ; and several nieces and nephews.  Mary Louise was preceded in death by her parents.

Friends may call at the Fassbender Funeral Home on Wednesday from 4:00 to 8:00 pm and one hour prior to services on Thursday.  Funeral services will be held in the Fassbender Funeral Home on Thursday, January 20, at 11:00 am with Rev. Paul Olson, UP Home Health and Hospice chaplain, and Pam Parkkila, hospice social worker, officiating.  Burial will be made in the Park Cemetery.  Escorts will be Mary Louise’s grandsons.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the MAPS Education Foundation Harold and Mary Lou Peterson Scholarship Fund, 1201 W. Fair Avenue, Marquette, MI 49855.
