Julius C. “Joe” DeFalico, Sr., 79, of 777 Pioneer Road, Lot 11, Marquette, entered eternal life Tuesday, January 11, 2005, at his home.
Born March 8, 1925 in Detroit, a son of Rocco and Carolina (Cavalucci) DeFalico, Joe came to Marquette as a child and remained a lifelong resident. Joe was employed with the Lake Superior and Ishpeming Railroad for ten years prior to beginning a career as a plumber. He worked for many years as a plumber with Feltner Plumbing and Heating prior to his retirement. Retirement could not slow Joe, for he continued to perform odd jobs for family and friends. An avid outdoorsman, he greatly enjoyed fishing, hunting, and playing various card games. He was especially fond of playing poker with his friends and going down to the Senior Citizen Center for cribbage games. Joe was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church and the Richard Jopling Post #44 of the American Legion. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the US Army.
Survivors include his son, Julius C. (Marlene) DeFalico, Jr of Marquette; a son-in-law, Ken Shipley of Negaunee Township; grandchildren, Joseph DeFalico and Carol (Skip) Fritzpatrick; great-grandchildren, Robert Quinnell and Adam Fitzpatrick; his special friend and companion, Louise Jackson of Marquette; a brother, Tony (Darlene) DeFalico of Milwaukee, WI; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his wife, Beatrice (Doherty) DeFalico in 1995; his daughter, Carol Shipley in 2001; and a sister, Teresa Feltner.
Private services will be held in the Fassbender Funeral Home with Rev. Lawrence Gauthier, officiating. Burial will be made in the Holy Cross Cemetery.
