Rhea A. Smith, 90, of 222 S. Fifth Street, Marquette, entered eternal life Wednesday noon, December 22, 2004, at the Mather Nursing Center in Ishpeming, where she had resided since August 26.
Born October 11, 1914 in Marquette, a daughter of Edward and Frances (Beaudette) Dauphinais, Rhea was a lifelong Marquette resident. On November 14, 1941 she married Harold A. Smith in Marquette. For many years, Rhea was employed as an aide in the dietary department of the former St. Luke’s Hospital, retiring in 1969. She was a founding and lifelong member of St. Christopher Catholic Church, a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, and a former member of the Women of the Moose. Rhea was an avid Chicago Cubs and Green Bay Packer fan and enjoyed playing cribbage.
Survivors include her daughter, Paulita (Darryl) Korby; a sister, Bernice Lemire, her cherished in-laws, Dorothy Dauphinais, Etta and Gus Boehlo, Lois and Paul DesJardins, George and Jacqueline Smith, and Bill Smith all of Marquette; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Rhea was preceded in death by her husband, Harold, on February 26, 1967; and three brothers, Edward, Claude, and Lloyd Dauphinais.
The family will receive relatives and friends at St. Christopher Catholic Church on Friday, December 24, beginning at 10:00 am. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 am with Rev. Alex K. Sample as celebrant. A luncheon will be served in the church fellowship hall. Inurnment will be made in the spring at the Holy Cross Cemetery.
