June Katherine Picard, 78, of Big Bay, affectionately known as Auntie June, entered eternal life Wednesday morning, December 8, at her home, as the result of a house fire.
Born June 9, 1926 in L’Anse, a daughter of Roy and Katherine (Fisher) Picard, June was raised in L’Anse and Houghton. She had been a resident of Big Bay for the past 35 years, living with her niece and family, Norma and Doug Hammond. Auntie June attended the Community Presbyterian Church in Big Bay, and she enjoyed picking berries and flowers, coloring, riding her bicycle, and playing with her doll collection.
Auntie June is survived by a sister-in-law, Gladys Picard (Bob) Trickett of Big Bay; several nieces, nephews, cousins, great nieces and great nephews, among them, Shawna (Al) Peterson and son, Aidan, Joshua (Suzette Walker) Stephenson, and Amanda Stephenson all of Big Bay, and Leticia (Michael) Appleton and children, Michael and Kylee of the Halfway Location. In addition to her parents, Auntie June was preceded in death by a sister, Beatrice Bowers; and brothers, Ray and Bob Picard and Bob and Bill Durand, Sr.
A Service of Remembrance will be held at the Community Presbyterian Church in Big Bay on Monday afternoon, December 13, at 3:30 pm with Rev. William Payne, officiating. The family will greet relatives and friends at a luncheon following the service.
