Elizabeth C. "Bette" Tuch Brisson, 70, of 150 Fisher Street, Marquette, entered eternal life on Saturday morning, November 20, 2004, at Marquette General Hospital.
Born July 11, 1934 in Ishpeming, a daughter of Carl A. and Dorothy J. (Berquist) Erickson, Bette was raised in Marquette, attending the Bishop Baraga High School. She later graduated through the Marquette Senior High School Adult Education Program with her son Michael's 1971 graduation class. She also attended Northern Michigan University for 2 years, studying through the Criminal Justice Program. In her early years, Bette worked as a secretary for the former Holy Family Orphanage and then later as a waitress at the Shoreland and Shamrock Bars for many years. Bette's former husband, Al Tuch, retired in 1994 due to ill health and during this time he crafted and painted pictures and characters on wooden backgrounds, which the couple prominently displayed on their front porch and yard for all to enjoy. Each season had a theme and Bette and Al enjoyed sharing the celebration of that season with all who traveled by their home. Bette liked to be kept busy and filled in wherever she was needed. She was a member of St. Louis the King Catholic Church in Harvey where she served as a CCD teacher in the church's religious education program. She also enjoyed helping to decorate the church for the various seasons. An avid flower gardener, she enjoyed making floral arrangements, along with dried floral creations, for family, friends, and church. She was also active in working at the Chocolay Summerfest and assisting at her church's booth at the Foodfest in the Lower Harbor. Bette was also actively involved in the UP 200 Sled Dog Races by working with the Mining Journal and setting up and selling various UP 200 merchandise. She was also a former board member of the UP 200 Sled Dog program. A lover of hockey, Bette enjoyed attending all home hockey games, especially Electrician's Local #1070 Hockey where she was a Hockey Mom.
Bette was also a worker at the Women's Center Tuesday night BINGO and Electician's Local #1070 Wednesday night BINGO. Bette's other hobbies and interests included crocheting, traveling, and shopping. In addition to her other affiliations, Bette was also a member of the Marquette Moose Lodge Auxiliary, the Richard Jopling Post #44 American Legion Auxiliary, and the Elks Lodge Auxiliary.
A devoted, generous, and loving mother, proud grandparent, and sister, she is survived by five daughters, Renee (Marshall) York of Amarillo, TX, Cynthia Tuch of Marquette, Rochelle "Shelly" (John) Elliott of St. Igance, Kathleen Tuch of Lansing, and Connie (Clifford) Mineau of Marquette; her son, Michael (Jenna) Tuch of Crossville, TN; a foster son, Eli Gillian of Marquette and Harbor Springs; three step-sons, Ronald (Hannah) Brisson of Marquette, Steven Brisson of Detroit, and David Brisson of Forsyth Township; her grandchildren, Elizabeth and Alicia Elliott, Angela, Robert, and Ronald Mineau, and Michael (Kim) Tuch Jr; two great-grandchildren, Raliegh Elizabeth Mineau and Noah Alvin Tuch; two brothers, Bradley (Debbie) Erickson of Brooklyn Center, MN and Bruce (Anita) Erickson of Waxahachie, TX; several nieces and nephews; and her family pets, Timmie Jon, Reggie, Tweedle, Romeo, and Louie.
