Edwin M. “Ed” Salke, 75, of 2320 M 554, Marquette, entered eternal life Tuesday, October 12, 2004, at his home, following a year long illness.

Born March 1, 1929 in Marquette, a son of Edward L. and Anna Marie (Stone) Salke, Ed was a lifelong Marquette resident.  He served in the US Army following World War II, where he was a member of the Hospital Trail Unit, transporting military patients, assisting with the care and treatment of patients, and keeping required records.  He was honorably discharged in 1948.  Ed returned to Marquette where he worked in the construction industry for many years, retiring in 1969.  In his leisure he enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cribbage with the neighbors, and taking mini trips with friends.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Helen Marie (Anderson) Salke, whom he married June 13, 1949; his daughter, Sandra Soileau of Marquette; two sons, Ronald “Mike” (Shelley) Salke of Sullivan, WI and Steven (Liz) Salke of Billings, MT; his grandchildren, Stephanie (Donald) Epper, Sarah (Ryan) Crabb, Anne (John) Swisher, Richard Jon “RJ” Salke, and Sheana Salke; great-granddaughter, Taylor Marie Epper; two sisters, Julie Morgan of Norwalk CA and Mary Lou (Lavern) Ek of Kenosha, WI; a brother, Wayne (Charlotte) Salke of Granville, IL; several nieces, nephews, many good friends; and his beloved canine companion, “Dutchess”.  Ed was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Robert, Richard, James, and Paul Salke.

Friends may call at the Fassbender Funeral Home on Friday, October 15, beginning at 11:00 am.  Funeral services will follow at 1:00 pm Friday afternoon, in the funeral home, with Leon Jarvis, Marquette General Hospital chaplain, officiating.  Honorary pallbearers will be Fred, Greg, and Tom St. John, Babe Galetto, Gary Dionne, and Don Campbell.  A reception for family and friends will be held at the Marquette Holiday Inn from 2:00 to 4:00 pm Friday afternoon.  Condolences may be expressed to the family of Edwin M.
