Alma C. Hoppe

Alma C. Hoppe, 89, of 222 S. Fifth Street, Marquette, entered eternal life Wednesday morning, October 27, 2004, at the Norlite Nursing Center where she had resided for the past two months.

Born October 14, 1915 in North Lake Location, Ishpeming Township, a daughter of William and Exilda (Beauchamp) St. Onge, Alma was raised in the North Lake Location and was a graduate of the Ishpeming High School.  On December 11, 1937 she married George E. Hoppe, and the couple settled in  Marquette where they began to establish their home and raise a family.  For over 24 years, George and Alma served as caretakers, and Alma as hostess, for the Marquette Federated Women’s Clubhouse on Ridge Street.  Alma was a former member of St. Louis the King Catholic Church in Harvey, and currently a member of St. Peter Cathedral, Marquette.

Survivors include her daughter, Gail (Douglas) Miller of Halfway Location; two sons, Paul (Maureen) Hoppe of Pleasant Ridge and Gary (Judith) Hoppe of Flint; grandchildren, Christine (Michael) Crouse, Major Douglas (Pam) Miller with the US Army, Meghan Kulman, Sean (Jennifer) Hoppe, Susan (Christopher DePerro) Hoppe, and Daniel Hoppe; great-grandchildren, Mallory and Meredith Miller, Justin and Linsey Crouse, and McKenzie Hoppe; a sister, Rita Laitinen of Marquette; two brothers, Elmer and twin brother, Alphonse “Chib” (Mary) St. Onge both of Ishpeming; a brother-in-law, Wallace Mackey of Republic; and several nieces and nephews.  In addition to her parents, Alma was preceded in death by her husband George E. Hoppe on May 11, 1992; two sisters, Jeanette St. Onge and Annette Mackey; two brothers, Albert and Raymond St. Onge; and sisters-in-law, Catherine and Prena St. Onge, and Annabelle Hoppe Moore.

Memorial services will be scheduled for next summer when Alma’s family will gather for a family reunion and celebration of her life.  Arrangements for services will be announced.  The family wishes to extend their appreciation to the staff and members of the Norlite Nursing Center for the many kindnesses extended to Alma and her family.  Memorials may be directed to the Norlite Nursing Center Patient Activity Fund, 701 Homestead, Marquette, MI 49855.

A memorial mass for Alma C. Hoppe, 89, formerly of 222 S. Fifth Street, Marquette, will be held at St. Mary Catholic Church in Big Bay on Saturday, July 2, at 11:00 am. Rev. Al Mott will be the celebrant. The family will receive relatives and friends one hour prior to mass at the church. Mrs. Hoppe, 89, entered eternal life on October 27, 2004 in Marquette.
