Nicholas Valenti

Nicholas J. Valenti of Marquette, age 78, entered eternal life in the loving comfort and care of his family on September 2, 2004.

Nick was born to Nicola and Mary Valenti and was raised in Ishpeming.  He served 25 years in the Air Force and was a Korean War Veteran.  Prior to retiring he worked for the Michigan Department of Corrections.  He was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church, a lifetime member of Marquette Elks Lodge #405 B.P.O.E. and a member of the Richard Jopling Post #44 of the American Legion.  Nick’s greatest joy was derived from the love and support of his family.  He was an avid Green Bay Packers and Cubs fan, and enjoyed playing card games with his family and friends.  Nick will be best remembered for his kind heart, loving spirit, and sense of humor.

Nick is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Carol; his children: Sheree (Paul) Firth, Nicholas (Ginger) Valenti Jr, Douglas (Terri) Valenti, Michael Sarasin, Susan (David) Reidy, David (Betty) Sarasin, Chantelle (Dan) Beckman, Sam (Christi) Sarasin; sixteen grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.  He is also survived by his sister, Rose (Louis) Warner; and brothers, Columbus (Lois) Valenti and Fred Keskey; his mother-in-law, Hazel Bussiere; and sister-in-law, Sue (Paul) Blomgren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Rocco, Frank, Salvatore, and Anthony Valenti, and Theodore (Babe) Keskey; an infant sister; and his father-in-law, William Bussiere.

On behalf of Nick, his family wishes to express a sincere thank you to their neighbors and friends, Geoffrey and Sue Weston and Todd and Judi Brugman for their selfless acts of kindness.

Friends may call at the Fassbender Funeral Home on Monday from 5:00 to 8:00 pm where an Elks Memorial Ritual will be held at 7:00 pm, followed by parish prayers at 7:30 pm.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Michael Catholic Church on Tuesday, September 7, at 10:00 am with Rev. Msgr. Jed Patrick, pastor, as celebrant.  A luncheon for family and friends will follow in the Parish Center.  Burial will be made in the Holy Cross Cemetery with veterans’ honors.  Escorts will be family members, Douglas and Nicholas Valenti Jr, Michael, David, and Sam Sarasin, Dan Beckman, David Reidy, and Paul Firth.  Serving as honorary escorts will be Nick’s grandchildren, Melissa and Dan Beckman Jr, Rian, Kyle, and Tina Valenti, Joshua and Janssen Firth, Matthew Reidy, Adam Sarasin, and Jeffrey Neubauer.
