MARQUETTE – Michael Alan LaMere, 47, of 777 Pioneer Road, Marquette, entered eternal life Wednesday morning, January 19, 2011, at his home, following a two year illness with ALS. Michael was in the loving care of his family and the caregivers of Lake Superior Hospice. Born January 16, 1964 in Marquette, a son of Edward C. and Dorces M. (Smith) LaMere, Michael was raised in Marquette and was a 1983 graduate of the Marquette Senior High School. Following graduation, Michael served in the US Army from 1983 to 1986 working primarily in transportation. For two years he was also employed with JFL Trucking in Texas as an evening driver. For over 20 years, Michael was employed in automobile detailing, working at times for the Ford dealership, Riverside Auto, and Saint’s Auto Sales. During the same time, he was also employed on the grounds crew at the Marquette Golf and Country Club for 16 years. Hardworking, Michael always worked two jobs. In his leisure, Michael enjoyed being an avid fan of Red Wing hockey, the Dallas Cowboys, and NASCAR. Survivors include his sons, Michael Lee and Leelan Edward LaMere both of Marquette; his mother, Dorces LaMere of Marquette; his siblings, Gloria Haglund of Skandia, Sue (Dave) Jarrett of Skandia, and Sharon (fiancée, Skip VanBuren) Rosin of Beaver Grove; Edward (Cindy) LaMere of Harvey, Kenneth (Kathy) LaMere of Princeton, TX, Mae (Dennis) Runyan of Oshkosh, WI, Clayton (Wanda) LaMere of Marquette, and Cherie Connors of Marquette; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins; special friends, Robin Gordon of Raleigh, NC and George Ingison of Marquette; and his canine companion, Tanner. Michael was preceded in death by his father, Edward C. LaMere; two sisters, Patty Jo LaMere and his twin, Marlene Ann LaMere; a nephew, Edward Gerald LaMere; brothers-in-law, Wayne Rosin and David Haglund; and a canine pal, Zeus. The family will receive relatives and friends at the Fassbender Funeral Home on Sunday, January 23, beginning at 1:00 pm. A memorial service will be held in the funeral home at 2:30 pm Sunday afternoon with Rev. Ronald Libey officiating. Honorary escorts will be Michael’s sons and brothers. Inurnment, with veteran’s honors, will be made at Park Cemetery in the spring. The family would like to express special appreciation to their sister, Cherie, for taking such good care of Michael in his final days.
