CHOCOLAY TOWNSHIP – Edgar Allen Gibbs, age 83, of 110 Katers Drive, Chocolay Township, passed away quietly in his sleep Thursday morning, January 12, 2012, at his home, in the loving, comforting care of his family and Lake Superior Hospice. Ed was born May 21, 1928, in Grand Rapids, a son of Clayton and Evangeline (Huff) Gibbs and lived much of his adult life in Marquette and Rumely. He owned and operated Gibbs Sporting Goods, Honda Dealership, Silver Springs Farm, Ed Gibbs Trucking, and Superior Accounting Services. Ed is survived by his beloved wife, Trudy Gibbs; a son, Gary and Noi Gibbs; daughters, Debbie and Carl Holmgren, Betsy Hansen, Carol Ann Harris, Ellen and Rick Simonetti, and Linda Hakala; 16 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; his only sibling, Elaine Woodard; and nephews, Jack, Jeff, and Scott Woodard. The family will receive relatives and friends at the Fassbender Funeral Home on Monday, January 16, from 12:00 noon until 2:00 pm. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm Monday afternoon with Rev. Leon Jarvis, presiding. A reception will follow at the Lakeside Econo Lodge (former Garden Room).
