Beatrice L. "Bea" Wentzel,
BIG BAY - Bea Wentzel, 94 years young, passed away peacefully in Westlake, Ohio, Friday, July 29, 2011. Born in Williams County, Ohio, August 4, 1916 to Clyde and Onnie (Lash) Bunce, Bea was a graduate of Edon, Ohio High School and Lansing, Michigan Business College. She married Adrian (Bud) Wentzel of the Michigan State Police. They celebrated their Golden Wedding in August, 1986 prior to his death in February 1987. They had one son, William. She was Postmaster at Big Bay for 17 years. She was a Deacon Emeritus at the Big Bay Presbyterian Church where she was also a member, and was Historian at River Ranch Chapel in Florida where she was an Associate Member. Beatrice served as a Volunteer Librarian at Bay Cliff Health Camp in Big Bay for 15 plus years. She was a Life Member of the Presque Isle Chapter #403 Order of Eastern Star, a member of the National League of Postmasters, and a Charter Member of the Powell Township Seniors. Preceding her in death was her parents, her husband, her son, Bill; and only sister Belva Bunce. She is survived by a granddaughter, Amy (Ronald) Koenig; two great-grand children, Ashleigh and Ian Koenig; daughter-in-law, Shirley Wentzel; a step-daughter, Beverly Nieusma of Saugatuck, MI; three step-grandchildren; and several step great-grandchildren. Friends may call at the Community Presbyterian Church in Big Bay on Saturday, September 10, from 11:00 am until 12:00 noon. Funeral services will follow at 12:00 noon Saturday with Rev. Rell Spickerman officiating. Burial will be made in the Powell Township Cemetery, Big Bay. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Bay Cliff Health Camp, P.O. Box 310, Big Bay, MI 49808.
