Eileen M. LaJoye,
Marquette – Eileen Mary LaJoye, 91, formerly of 222 S. Fifth Street, Marquette, entered eternal life Friday evening, August 26, 2011, at Eastwood Nursing Center in the loving care of her family. Born April 19, 1920 in L’Anse, a daughter of Homer and Grace (Gallano) Goodreau, Eileen was raised in L’Anse. She came from a large family and from the age of 15 assisted her mother in the care of her siblings. On May 6, 1939, she married Louis John LaJoye and the couple resided in many locations throughout the Upper Peninsula due to Louis’ employment in the construction industry. Family was everything to Eileen and she thoroughly enjoyed being a wife, mother, and homemaker. Over the years, the hours were long, but she found her household duties fulfilling and rewarding. She was a member of St. Peter Cathedral and the Escanaba Choral Society. Additionally, she was an avid walker and was proud to be a true UP native. Survivors include her daughter, Patricia LaJoye of Bradenton, FL; sons, Gale (Dotty) LaJoye of Marquette, Dean (Delores) LaJoye of Harvey, Garry (Rae) LaJoye of Claire, and Mark (Martha) LaJoye of Columbus, GA; 15 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, 2 great great-grandchildren; brothers, Carl (Joan) Goodreau of Detroit, Albert (Pauline) Goodreau of Baraga, and Delmer “Butch” (Eva) Goodreau of Greenland; a sister-in-law, Betty Goodreau of Grafton, WI; numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Eileen was preceded in death by her husband, Louis; siblings, Charles Goodreau, Donald Goodreau, Laura (Sr. Grace Albert) Goodreau, Lillian (and husband, Cyril) Destrampe, Robert (and wife, Aini) Goodreau, Rosemary (and husband, Frank) Patierno, Homer Goodreau, Virginia (and husband, Paul) Bosworth, Dolores (and husband, Maxwell) Little, Bernice Goodreau, and Gale Goodreau. The family will receive relatives and friends at St. Louis the King Catholic Church in Harvey on Thursday, September 1, beginning at 10:00 am. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00 noon Thursday with Rev. Ben Paris, pastor, as celebrant. Eileen’s sons will serve as escorts. A reception will follow in Fr. Gauthier Hall. Burial will be made in the Evergreen Cemetery, L’Anse. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the St. Vincent dePaul Society. The Fassbender Funeral Home is serving the family, where condolences may be expressed online at www.fassbenderfuneralhome.com
