Jeremy S. Hansen Funeral Director/Owner

Jeremy’s interest in funeral service began when, as a teenager, he assisted his father and grandfather with the remodel of an area funeral home. Infused with a strong work ethic and desire to expand his horizons, Jeremy began his quest to become a funeral director while in high school. Following his graduation from Marquette Senior High School, he graduated Summa Cum Laude from Wayne State University with his Bachelor of Science in Mortuary Science. By 2004, Jeremy was employed in funeral service locally for several years before becoming a partner in the Fassbender Funeral Home. In 2006, he was involved with the merging of the Swanson-Lundquist Funeral Home with the Fassbender Funeral Home, the working association that resulted has enhanced service for clients of both firms. Presently, Jeremy is the sole owner of both funeral homes. In his spare time, he enjoys biking, golfing, skiing, and snowboarding. He currently serves on many local boards and committees, including the UP Home Health and Hospice P.A.C. Board, Chairman of the UP Home Health and Hospice Foundation, Upper Peninsula Family Solutions, Chairman of the Downtown Development Authority, Treasurer of Michigan Funeral Directors Association District 10, and President of the Marquette Investment Club. Jeremy is deploy committed to funeral service and the families it serves.

Todd Reder Funeral Director

Todd is a native of Bay City. He is a graduate of Cypress Mortuary College, of Cypress California. He was previously employed in California for twenty years, Grosse Pointe, Michigan for two years, and then in Traverse City for three years before coming to Marquette in 2016. Todd and wife, Tara, have four children, Ryann, Taylor, Alexis, and Austin. Todd enjoys relaxing through golfing, snowmobiling, hunting, boating, and basically being outdoors, much of which he, Tara, and their yellow lab, Buck, share together. He is an enthusiastic fan of the Detroit Lions and Tigers.

Jake Peterson Funeral Director Assistant

Jacob “Jake” Marquette native, joined the team in 2015. Currently in his senior year at Northern Michigan University, studying exercise science, Jake intends to begin his apprenticeship and enter mortuary school, following graduation. He enjoys the outdoors, snowboarding, hiking, playing hockey, and spending time with his dogs, Skyler and Talon. Jake loves to listen to music and is our IT Man when it comes to recording the special songs families request for services.

Amanda Stenfors Office Manager

A Michigamme native, Amanda is a graduate of the Negaunee High School, Class of 1994 and has a Bachelors Degree in Business Management from Ashford University. She has been a member of our team since 2015, previously working as a medical transcriptionist for two years. Amanda is married to William and they have three children, Alaina, Luke, and Caitlin. She enjoys baking, crafting, watching hockey, and being a hockey mom. Amanda handles all veteran’s paperwork, filing death certificates and the daily paperwork at the funeral home.

John H. Oberstar Funeral Director/Manager

The senior member of the team, John joined Fassbender Funeral Home in 1974. His interest in funeral service occurred in the 2nd grade when a classmate passed away from leukemia and he remembers watching the long, black car, men carrying a box up the steps of the church and out again, and the long, slow procession to the cemetery. Not understanding the gravity of the situation, he found it fascinating. John is a graduate of Northern Michigan University where he received his Bachelor of Science in Social Work. With his passion for helping people, John then enrolled and the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science fulfilling his licensing requirements to become a licensed funeral director. Following college, he found employment at the Fassbender Funeral Home. He has found the life of a funeral director to be very fulfilling and is thankful to his family, mentors, and client families for teaching and encouraging him throughout the years. John is a devoted and active member of St. Christopher Catholic Church in Marquette.

Ben Poquette Funeral Director

An Iron Mountain native, Ben came to the team in 2009. Following a high school Career Day lecture and tour, Ben first thought of the prospect of working in funeral service and assisting individuals through difficult times. When not working, Ben enjoys spending time outdoors, hunting, traveling along wooded trails in his Jeep, and archery. He belongs to several service and sportsman’s clubs including, St. Michael Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. His choice of career has been meaningful and productive and he is a valued member of the team.

Dona Hansen Office Manager

For over 20 years, Dona enjoyed being employed locally as a legal assistant.  When her son, Jeremy, purchased the Fassbender Funeral Home, and later the Swanson-Lundquist Home, he asked his mother to join him in his new venture in 2004. In addition to her role as Office Manager, Dona and her husband, Steve, spearhead the renovation projects at the funeral homes. In her spare time, she enjoys scrapbooking, walking, reading, and spending time with family. Her and Steve have two sons, Jeremy and Michael (wife, Jonelle Peterson), and a grandson, Glenn.  She enjoys the fulfillment that comes with belonging to an organization that serves people, especially during their most difficult  hours.

Cathy DeRocher Office Manager

Another of our valued team members, Cathy came to us in 2010 following 20 years as a dental receptionist.  She is married to David and they have two children, Crystal and Levi.  In her spare time (whatever and wherever), she enjoys cooking, baking, snowshoeing, and spending time with her family.   Cathy also serves as part time bookkeeper and is in charge of handling insurance inquiries and processing paperwork.
